In times of crisis, we need to know how to work with pain and trauma, whether doing first aid at home or creating an herbal station at a mutual aid hub. This class is on first aid and on mutual aid, so wherever you are in your herbal journey, you can benefit!

On Saturday, we will focus on physical pain: understanding the three main types of pain and the herbs and supportive therapies to address them, using both internal remedies and topical applications. On Saturday, attendees will work in community to create an herbal goodie to take home. On Sunday, we will talk about how to work with trauma, loss, and grief, both working with herbs as well as learning how to create a trauma-informed space. Class each day will be from 10am-5pm central (11am-6pm eastern).

This class is for anyone looking to learn, and we specifically invite folks who want to participate in community care clinics.

There will be an optional potluck (open to the public) on Saturday evening for folks who want to connect around mutual aid and first aid, so bring your kits and bring your energy for community connection! If you plan on attending the Potluck please fill this form out: https://tools.signupgenius.com/c/1010-community-care-potluck-herbal-support-for-pain-injuries/forms

Bird Fork herbal teas will be provided and the farm's apothecary will be open to shop. CoreyPine Shane will have his books available and Pine's Herbals offerings.

Make a weekend out of it, come camp on the farm! Book as a workshop add-on for a discounted camping rate.

This workshop will take place outside. Please wear appropriate clothing (it's typically 10 degrees cooler on the farm than in Chatt), and bring: snacks, packed lunches, sunscreen, bug protection, a water bottle, a notebook, and anything else that may bring you comfort. Exact location details will be emailed to you once you sign-up, but we are located in Cagle, TN just west of Dunlap. Please note we are located on central time and the workshop begins at 11am EST (10am central).

About the instructor: CoreyPine Shane RH (AHG) began studying herbal medicine in the late 1980s, identifying plants and learning about how the human body heals and eventually graduating from the Northeast School of Botanical Medicine. He moved to Asheville in 1996 and started teaching and seeing clients. Because of his desire to make custom individualized formulas for each client, he started wildcrafting and making larger batches of tinctures.

He then studied with herbalist Michael Moore at the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine in Bisbee, Arizona to further his herbal education. CoreyPine returned to Asheville and founded the Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine in 1999. He began selling Pine’s Herbals in some local stores and has been expanding both his school and herbal business ever since.

CoreyPine (yes, that is his first name) is the author of the ebook Herbs for Pain and Southeastern Medicinal Plants (Timber Press, November 2021). He is in demand as a speaker and practitioner, having taught at herb schools and conferences throughout the United States and in Europe. A strong proponent of mutual aid, CoreyPine is one of the founders of the Barnardsville Free Herbal Clinic, and a member of Herbalists Without Borders and the Appalachian Herb Collective.

When not delving into tomes of herbal lore, CoreyPine can be found meandering through the woods, watching birds, and harvesting plants and mushrooms for dinner. He has also developed a passion for photography and takes more photos than his friends really care to look at.
