Join Outdoor Chattanooga, National Park Partners, and Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park for a FREE, guided kayak tour on Saturday, October 10, at 8:30 a.m.
This unique on-the-water experience combines paddling, outdoor adventure, and the historical significance of the area. Participants will paddle across Harrison Bay from Harrison Bay State Park to Patton Island, following a route connected to the military movements that helped shape the Union campaign for control of Chattanooga.
Exploring a small portion of Patton Island, the group will explore the landscape on foot while learning more about the Confederate defense, the Union advance, and the larger struggle for control of Chattanooga—a campaign that ultimately helped set the stage for the Union breakthrough at Missionary Ridge and the opening of the route into the Deep South.
Pre-reservation is required, space is limited, appropriate for ages 14 and up. Some prior paddling experience is recommended, hiking on the island includes more challenging terrain including bushwhacking and navigating under deadfalls. Recreational kayaks provided by Outdoor Chattanooga. Program is provided at no cost to you by National Park Partners
